Wyoming superbill and invoice for LPC, LCSW, LMFT, and psychologists
This page is the same Therapist Invoice Generator generator with Wyoming selected. Out-of-network clients still need a superbill with your NPI, tax ID, Wyoming license number, CPT codes, ICD-10 diagnoses, place of service, and fees. Private-pay clients usually need a simpler invoice — toggle the document type above.
License titles used on Wyoming superbills
Independent counseling in Wyoming is commonly written as LPC. Also print the letters you actually hold: LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Licensed Psychologist. The board to match your number against is the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board. License line hint: WY LPC #.
Wyoming LPC compact privileges have begun in the early operational wave. Verify both states before relying on the compact.
Telehealth coding (national rules, used in Wyoming)
In-office sessions use place of service 11 and no telehealth modifier. Video visits with the client at home use POS 10 and modifier 95. If the client is not at home, use POS 02. Audio-only, when the payer allows it, is modifier 93. Do not pair POS 11 with modifier 95.
Sales tax on therapy in Wyoming
Wyoming has statewide sales tax, but professional mental health services are generally treated as nontaxable professional services. Confirm if you sell goods. This generator defaults tax to zero. Add a note, not a tax engine, if your situation is unusual (retail products, groups billed as events, etc.).
Interstate compacts (verify before you practice)
- Counseling Compact: Operational / issuing privileges
- PSYPACT (psychologists): Active
- Social Work Compact: Not a member
Enacted is not the same as operational. A compact privilege does not replace documenting the license or privilege you used on the date of service.
Small-state payer quirks?
Commercial OON still wants the national field set: NPI, EIN, license, CPT, ICD-10, POS, dates, charges, and amount paid.
What to put on a Wyoming superbill
- Your legal name, LPC or other credential, practice address, phone
- NPI (Type 1) and EIN or SSN as tax ID
- Wyoming license number as printed by the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board
- Client name, date of birth, member ID if they want reimbursement
- Each date of service, POS, CPT (90834 / 90837 / 90791 are the usual set), ICD-10, fee, amount paid
Orientation only — not billing, tax, or legal advice. Payer rules beat this page.
Wyoming private-practice clinicians use superbills for out-of-network (OON) insurance reimbursement and invoices for self-pay clients. This generator builds either document in the browser—no PHI upload—and downloads a PDF with rendering credential, Wyoming license number, NPI, CPT, ICD-10, place of service, and payment lines.
Select Wyoming defaults when your rendering authority and the client's location for the session are Wyoming (or another jurisdiction you are lawfully authorized to serve). Match the exact title on your board record. This page is workflow documentation only—not legal, billing, or tax advice.
License titles that belong on the form
Wyoming's independent counseling title is Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Print LPC (or the exact supervised/associate string if applicable). Social workers use LCSW tiers as licensed; MFTs use LMFT; psychologists use Licensed Psychologist.
Other titles commonly used on Wyoming superbills:
- LCSW — print the exact letters on your Wyoming license/board record.
- LMFT — print the exact letters on your Wyoming license/board record.
- Licensed Psychologist — print the exact letters on your Wyoming license/board record.
Exact credential dropdown strings:
`LPC` · `LCSW` · `LMFT` · `Licensed Psychologist`
Independently licensed clinicians list their own license only. Associates and provisionally licensed clinicians must use the associate/provisional title and should identify the supervisor when a payer asks. Do not put the independent title on the form during a supervised period.
Board, license number, lookup
Licenses are issued by the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board. Verify through the board's official public search and copy the license number exactly. Wyoming publishes Counseling Compact guidance for licensees at mentalhealth.wyo.gov.
Official verification: https://site.zywave.com/wymentalhealth/Public/Search. Copy the license number exactly as shown. The generator hint WY LPC # is a placeholder—replace it with your real board number. Include individual NPI (and group NPI if applicable) plus EIN/SSN as the payer requires.
Interstate practice: Counseling Compact / PSYPACT / SW compact
Snapshot for 2026-09-14 (always re-check official maps):
- Counseling Compact — operational. Wyoming is among the live jurisdictions issuing privileges (counselingcompact.gov lists Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wyoming as live as of this retrieval). Privileges require both home and remote states to be live.
- PSYPACT — yes. Wyoming participates for psychologists who hold required ASPPB authorizations (E.Passport / TAP as applicable). Confirm on psypact.gov. PSYPACT does not authorize counselor, social work, or MFT practice.
- Social Work Licensure Compact — no at retrieval (Wyoming not listed on swcompact.org/compact-jurisdictions). Do not advertise multistate SW practice via the compact until the official map includes Wyoming.
Verify before you rely on it. Compact membership and privilege systems change. This page's flags are for generator defaults only.
Telehealth + place of service
For video psychotherapy superbills, use the place-of-service codes payers expect:
- POS 10 — patient at home
- POS 02 — telehealth other than home
- Modifier 95 — when the plan wants synchronous telemedicine marked
Do not code a video-only session as POS 11. A Wyoming license, a live Counseling Compact privilege naming Wyoming (when operational), or another lawful authorization must cover the client's location. Put your licensed practice address on the form even when the session is remote.
Sales tax on therapy invoices
Wyoming imposes statewide sales/use (excise) tax on tangible personal property and certain taxable services (for example, some repairs and amusements). Professional mental health counseling/psychotherapy is generally treated as a nontaxable professional service. Leave tax at $0 on clinical invoices; tax taxable goods if you sell them. Confirm with the Wyoming Department of Revenue or a preparer.

Two worked Wyoming examples
Wyoming's paperwork runs through the Mental Health Professions Licensing Board, and it sits in a genuinely unusual position: one of the few states where the Counseling Compact is actually operational — the board even publishes compact guidance for licensees at mentalhealth.wyo.gov. The two documents below come from a fictional Cheyenne practice. All identifiers are placeholders.
Example 1 — an in-office private-pay Wyoming invoice
An LPC sees a self-pay client for weekly 60-minute sessions in the office. No insurer is involved, so the document is an invoice — services, dates, charges, payments — and the diagnosis column can stay empty.
| Date of service | Service | CPT | POS | Charge | Paid |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apr 8 | Individual psychotherapy, 60 min | 90837 | 11 | $140.00 | $140.00 |
| Apr 15 | Individual psychotherapy, 60 min | 90837 | 11 | $140.00 | $140.00 |
| Apr 22 | Individual psychotherapy, 60 min | 90837 | 11 | $140.00 | $140.00 |
| Apr 29 | Individual psychotherapy, 60 min | 90837 | 11 | $140.00 | $140.00 |
| Sales tax (see below) | $0.00 | ||||
| Total | $560.00 | $560.00 | |||
POS 11 is accurate for office sessions. The tax line stays at $0.00 — Wyoming does have a statewide sales tax, but professional mental health services are generally treated as nontaxable professional services. Confirm if you also sell goods. The credential is LPC, and the license field follows the WY LPC # hint — copy the number exactly as the board's public search displays it.
Example 2 — a telehealth out-of-network superbill
A second client in Laramie has a PPO and attends weekly by video from home. The document must satisfy an adjuster's checklist, so it becomes a superbill: the invoice fields plus diagnosis, telehealth coding, and the complete provider identity block.
| Date of service | CPT | Modifier | POS | ICD-10 | Charge | Paid |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jul 1 | 90791 | 95 | 10 | F41.0 | $170.00 | $170.00 |
| Jul 8 | 90837 | 95 | 10 | F41.0 | $140.00 | $140.00 |
| Jul 15 | 90837 | 95 | 10 | F41.0 | $140.00 | $140.00 |
| Jul 22 | 90837 | 95 | 10 | F41.0 | $140.00 | $140.00 |
| Total | $590.00 | $590.00 | ||||
The client was at home, so POS 10 applies — telehealth from anywhere else would take 02, and 11 would falsely claim an office visit. Modifier 95 flags synchronous audio-video service for the plans that require it. The intake bills 90791; the 60-minute follow-ups bill 90837.
The provider block carries the rendering name with LPC, the license number copied verbatim from the board's public search, NPI, practice address, and tax ID. The paid column is populated because OON reimbursement repays actual expenditures — a blank paid column gives the plan nothing to reimburse.
Both parties were in Wyoming, so the state license sufficed. Wyoming is among the operational Counseling Compact states — privileges are actually issuing — so a Wyoming LPC can hold privileges in other live compact states and counselors from live states can hold privileges for Wyoming clients. The privilege must still name the remote state, and supervised statuses are not privilege credentials. Wyoming participates in PSYPACT for psychologists holding ASPPB authorizations.
Common mistakes on Wyoming superbills
- Printing a supervised status as LPC. Supervised and associate-level credentials are not the independent title — print the exact string on your license and identify the supervisor when the plan asks.
- Guessing the license number. Copy the exact string from the board's public search rather than reconstructing a format — the payer verifies against that record.
- Assuming compact privileges cover supervisees. Wyoming's operational Counseling Compact extends to independently licensed counselors — the privilege has to name the remote state, and supervised statuses are not eligible.
- Coding telehealth as POS 11. Use 10 for a client at home and 02 for telehealth elsewhere. POS 11 describes an office visit.
- Adding a sales-tax line. Wyoming has a statewide sales tax, but professional mental health services are generally nontaxable. Leave the line at $0 on therapy-only invoices.
- Leaving the paid column blank. OON plans reimburse money already spent — a superbill without payments gives the adjuster nothing to act on.
FAQ
Small-state payer quirks?
Commercial OON still wants the national field set: NPI, EIN, license, CPT, ICD-10, POS, dates, charges, and amount paid.
Is Wyoming in the Counseling Compact?
Yes—operational. Privileges work only with other live states; check counselingcompact.gov before interstate counseling claims.
Does Wyoming tax therapy sessions?
Professional mental health services are generally nontaxable. Leave tax at $0 on session-only invoices; confirm if you sell goods.
Can a Wyoming psychologist use PSYPACT?
Wyoming participates in PSYPACT. You still need active authorizations and must follow Commission rules—verify on psypact.gov.
What do OON payers want on a Wyoming superbill?
Name + Wyoming credential (LPC or as licensed), board license number, NPI, DOS, CPT, ICD-10, POS, charges, payments, and telehealth modifiers when required.
Why these sources matter
Every factual claim on this page traces back to a primary source: Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board, the official interstate-compact commissions, and Wyoming's own tax authority. That matters because out-of-network billing guidance ages badly — license titles get renamed, compacts add members, and taxable-service lists get amended. Secondhand summaries lag those changes by months. The links below are the records themselves, with the date each was checked, so you can re-verify anything here before you rely on it for a claim.
